Getting around

Flights, trains, transit and ride-share across three countries.

Match-day transport by city

Step-by-step routes to all 16 host stadiums — official lines, shuttles and shortcuts.

Between cities

Domestic flights (USA)

Tip: typically the fastest option for cities >500 km apart. Booking 2–3 months ahead is recommended — match-weekend prices may increase significantly. Major hubs: ATL, ORD, DFW, LAX, JFK, MIA. Budget carriers: Spirit, Frontier, Southwest. Premium: Delta, United, American.

Trains — USA Northeast Corridor

Amtrak Acela & Northeast Regional connect Boston ↔ NYC ↔ Philadelphia ↔ DC. Travel times generally around 3–4h NYC–Boston (may vary depending on service and schedule). Often a strong alternative to flying for these distances. Book on amtrak.com or the Amtrak app.

Buses — Mexico (ADO/Primera Plus)

Long-distance buses in Mexico are commonly reported as comfortable and reliable, with reclining seats. ADO covers Gulf/southeast, Primera Plus covers central/west. Often more affordable than flying for shorter distances.

Trains — Canada (VIA Rail)

Toronto ↔ Montreal corridor is generally reliable (typically around 5h, may vary). Otherwise, flying is usually faster. Toronto ↔ Vancouver by train takes several days — primarily a scenic experience.

Public transit by country

Pick your host city for step-by-step match-day transit — official lines, walk zones, road closures and recommendations. Public transportation is typically more affordable than rideshare options, especially during large events.

Recommended apps: Transit App (most US/CA cities), Citymapper (NYC/LA/DC/Boston/Chicago), Moovit (Mexico).

Rideshare strategy

  • Uber and Lyft generally operate in all 16 host cities. Didi also operates in Mexico.
  • Surge pricing after matches may increase significantly during peak demand. Walking 10–15 minutes from the stadium can sometimes help break out of the surge zone.
  • Recommendation: use rideshare from the airport to your hotel only if arriving outside transit hours. Most US airports add airport pickup fees that vary by city.
  • Always confirm the license plate matches before getting in.

Car rentals

  • ·Tip: a rental car is generally more useful in sprawling cities like LA, Dallas, Houston and Kansas City, where transit can be limited.
  • ·Recommendation: skip rentals in NYC, Boston, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver and Mexico City — parking and traffic are typically challenging.
  • ·An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended for Mexico. Insurance requirements vary by country and provider — confirm coverage before booking.
