Match-day transport options

#1

NJ Transit Meadowlands Rail Line

Recommended World Cup special fare

From Penn Station NY take any NJ Transit train to Secaucus Junction (10 min), then transfer to the Meadowlands shuttle train direct to MetLife (8 min). Service runs from 4 hours before kickoff. Buy a round-trip 'MetLife Stadium' ticket on the NJ Transit app — much faster than ticket machines on match day.

Duration: ~25 min from Midtown Cost: USD ~150 round-trip (special World Cup fare — ~10× normal)
Best for: Anyone staying in Manhattan, Hoboken, Newark or near a NJT station.
#2

Coach USA 351 — Port Authority Express

World Cup special fare

Bus 351 leaves the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd & 8th) every 15 min on match days. Direct to the stadium parking lots. Use this if Penn Station is overwhelmed (likely for knockout matches).

Duration: ~30 min Cost: USD ~80 round-trip (Coach USA World Cup match-day fare)
#3

Uber / Lyft

World Cup special fare

Drop-off zone is on the east side of the stadium (Lot J). Post-match surge regularly hits 4–6× on World Cup nights — fares from Manhattan can exceed USD 200. Walk to the American Dream Mall (10 min north) to leave the surge zone before requesting. Public transit is almost always cheaper and faster.

Cost: USD 80–250+ from Manhattan (peak surge)

Leaving the stadium

Return trains run for ~3 hours after the final whistle but the first 45 min are crushing. Grab food at the stadium plaza, let the wave clear, then walk back to the rail platform. Ticket is the same — no need to re-buy.

Heads up

  • ·NO general parking at MetLife during the World Cup. Only ~limited 'premium' spots near American Dream are available, starting around USD 200+ per match. Don't drive — public transit is mandatory for most fans.
  • ·NJ Transit raised match-day round-trip rail fares to ~USD 150 (vs. ~USD 13 normally). Coach bus is ~USD 80 round-trip. Budget accordingly — this is the most expensive transit of any host city.
